Cambridge Inner & Outer | 5 Stations; 6 Rail Lines
Project: Q-Rail Project to Deliver the Signalling Telecomms Design for GRIP 2 and 3 Options Selection Design on behalf of LB Foster and Amey.
Cambridge Re-Lock and Interlock Renewals programme required a fast and efficient sign off for GRIP 2 and Option Selection Report and CAS.
Q-Rail Delivered within time and budget to tight time frames; which was recognised ny the Network Rail Project Team.
The work invovled:
- Supporting Amey to develop a GRIP 2 – GSMR, Infrastructure Report, Telephone Concentrators and Lineside Comms Report
- Supporting the Signalling team with Telecomms Options
- Developing the Options Selection Report
- Requested by Network Rail to integrate and develop the previously submitted Inner Options Section Report
- Develop final solution and update Network Rail CAS Portal
- Awarded GRIP 4-5
Great Western Electrification Project | Open Route & Stations Earthing & Bonding Design
Project: Q-Rail supported the senior team to develop a compliant and robust Earthing & Bonding Design, co-ordinating with the Site, Design and Management Teams to build a fully assured system from previous designs.
GWEP E&B Project had been onset with project issues and co-ordination. The previous designs were either rejected or not advance to be considered as constructible. Q-Rail Design supported and advised onsite teams and co-ordinated the design activities to develop the design to construction and supported the Network Rail agreed assurance process to give a fully assured and compliant design.
Value added:
- Cross Referenced 18 Rail Sections and Open route design, developed a gap analysis to give cost to complete and close out plan
- Developed previously rejected designs from "Approval in Principle" to Detailed Design and Construction within a 6 month programme
- Supported with Composite bonding plan and EMC
East London Line | Stations
Project: Responsible for the acceptance of all EMC documentation on behalf of Transport for London and its subsidiary London Overground.
The East London Line project was a 1.2bn GBP construction project building a new railway from New Cross Gate to Dalston in London including the construction of a train maintenance depot.
The work has involved:
- Supported all sections of EMC
- Develop the E&B Design for EMC Strategy, EMC Hazard Logs and Risk profile, EMC review for the diversion of cable and route throughout the depot and adjacent mainline railway
- Developed Bonding Plan for both sections
RSSA Bristol Temple Meads (GWEP) | Bristol Parkway
Project: The provision of the project EMC Strategy for Route Section Special A of the Great Western Electrification Project.
Q-Rail supported the Project EMC engineer responsible for the provision of the project EMC Strategy, EMC Control Plan and co-ordination of the works for Route Section 6P of the Great Western Electrification Project.
Value added:
- Design and facilitation of workshops to capture views and potential issues via the HAZID workshops
- Develop the E&B Design for EMC Strategy, EMC Hazard Logs and Risk profile, EMC review for the diversion of cable and route throughout the depot and adjacent mainline railway
- Developed and supported the successful EMC project
Open Route | Stations E&B CRE support OLE Upgrade
Project: Project support for Great Western Main Line (GWML).
Great Western Main Line (GWML); is the main railway line between London Paddington and Swansea. As part of improvements to the railway line; the electrification of the GWML with the aim to reduce associated operational costs and improve efficiency.
The work has involved:
- Supported Arup to deliver the Earthing and Bonding Design for Newport Station Section I
- Develop the E&B Design for Section K open route
- Developed Bonding Plan for both sections
- The Greater West GSM-R CRE (GRIP 4 & 5)
Metrowest | Station Design Support – Brought Back into Service
Project: The MetroWest project is a third party project promoted and funded by the West of England Councils (WoE).
The Project proposal is to introduce rail passenger services across Bristol with a service pattern operating between Portishead, Bath Spa and Severn Beach, with intermediate stops. Portbury Dock Junction and Portishead, and work on the main line between Parson Street and Bristol Temple Meads. A new terminus will be required at Portishead with an intermediate Station at Pill. Further works are required at Bathampton.
Value added:
- Design and facilitation of workshops to capture views and potential issues via the HAZID workshops
- Supported the team to deliver a late running project
- Co-ordinated several external companies
Brent Cross and Cricklewood Sidings | Design
Project: OLE and SCADA/Asset Monitoring Design and EMC Strategy for the Brent Cross and Cricklewood Sidings redevelopment works.
Part of a wider £12bn regeneration scheme. The depot works include remodelling of the railway corridor and relocation of sidings to accommodate a new station.
The work has involved:
- Assessment of the GSM-R coverage
- SCADA integration for New OLE
- Asset monitoring and Data Logger scope development and design
Hythe Road | GRIP 4 and 5 – SISS, OPS Design
Project: Upgrade works at Hythe Road elevated Station.
Supported ARCADIS and Network Rail with a CRE for all associated upgrade works at Hythe Road elevated Station; tasked with the delivery of OPS, SISS and EMC for station design and integration. Utilising BIM 3D and Project wise, developed designs and federated models with all design stakeholders for line side and station construction.

- Built the GRIP 4 Co-ordinated Design (BIM Level 2) for SISS and OPS Design
- Built GRIP 5 Detailed Design to BIM Level 2 for SISS and OPS

Kings Cross | Redevelopment Works SCADA Design
Project: GRIP 4 & 5 design delivery for the upgrade work at King Cross.
Offering offering SCADA and Network Rail CRE support for the new tunnel, platform and remodelling works at Kings Cross Station; tasked with the design and development of the station OLE/SCADA and integration to the York ROC.
The work has involved:
- The SCADA design for a Cromos 86 system
- Cable Route and System (Section 12) Compliant Design
- BIM level 2 design
- SCADA integration for New OLE
Barking Riverside | Extension SISS/OPS Design
Project: GRIP 4&5 design with Engineering Manager and Network Rail appointed CRE to support the upgrade works at Barking Riverside Extension Station.
Tasked with the delivery of OPS COMM and SISS station design and integration at GRIP 4 and design development at GRIP 5. Also, lead the design team for the SCADA, OLE & Signalling integration. Utilising BIM 3D and Project wise, developed designs and federated models with all design stakeholders for line side and station construction.
